"Local Artist in Smithsonian Exhibition"
Jacob Brown is a 2011 graduate of Mars Area High School, and graduate of the St. Anthony Post-Secondary Program at Duquesne University.
The Department of VSA and Accessibility at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has chosen Mars resident Jacob Brown as an Award of Excellence recipient for the exhibition “"Sustaining / Creating."
Brown, 20, was one of only fifteen finalists selected from across the country. His artwork "Copper 2" was part of the “Sustaining/Creating” exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution’s S. Dillon Ripley Center from September 11, 2012 – January 13, 2013.
Mr. Brown is a 2011 graduate of Mars Area High School and graduate of the Saint Anthony's Post-Secondary Program at Duquesne University.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., co-sponsor of the award, underwrote Mr. Brown’s attendance at the exhibit reception in DC on September 13.
VSA, the international organization on arts and disability, was founded more than 35 years ago by Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith to provide arts and education opportunities for people with disabilities and increase access to the arts for all.
The exhibit was on display from September 11, 2012 to January 13, 2013 at the S. Dillon Ripley Center at the Smithsonian Institution, 110 Jefferson Drive SW, Washington, DC.
